The pessimism of the schizophrenics

Abstract
In order to study pessimism in the schizophrenics, Beck¢¥s hopelessness scals was used for measuring hopelessness,
One-hundred normal subjects, 50 schizophrenic patients in acute phase and 148 in recovery hapse were selected randomly.
The results were as follows;
1. The hopelessness score was highest in the acute phase schizophrenic group, followed by the recovery phase schizophrenic group and the normal control group.
2. No difference was observed between both sexes in normal control and schizophrenic groups.
3. The scores of all 3 factors the "loss of motivation`, the "feeling about the future", and the "future expectation" were significantly high in the schizophrenic group than the normal control group.
4. The hopelessness score of the schizophrenic group showed no significant difference in age, educational level, marital status, religion, and duration of illness.
